Description

Developed over twelve months of play-testing by Tony Moffitt, ‘Striker!’ is a set of easy rules to play realistic tabletop soccer/football, using an innovative mechanism to create genuinely realistic matches that mirror the tactics used in a real game.

Tony is an experienced soccer/football coach who has coached players of all ages and skill abilities in Australia, Ireland and Spain. To develop the rule set he met with coaches from the English Premier League, Irish football, Dutch football and coaches from the Spanish La Liga… as well as many Academy coaches across Europe.

Tony has also been wargaming with miniature figures for over 40 years. It’s a combination of all this experience and knowledge that makes ‘Striker!’ the stunning game that it is.

‘Striker!’ draws on all Tony’s knowledge and experience to create a game that will give an elegant simple playability but also stunning realism.

‘Striker!’ is playable with miniature figures and is completely compatible with a Subbuteo pitch and players. However the game can be played out just as well on your own table using cardboard counters or even coins to represent players. The game also plays beautifully solo!

Everything you need to begin play is contained within the ‘Striker!’ rulebook. There are no add-ons, and no expansions required. The ‘Striker!’ rules are the complete package.

All you need are some dice, a tape measure and a table!

At the back of the book is a series of summary pages that contain all the relevant rules for easy reference.

Playing ‘Striker!’ involves no book-keeping, and no need to constantly reference information. A game of ‘Striker!’ takes about 90 minutes … the same time as a real football match!

“I’m very proud of these rules. I believe ‘Striker!’ is a wonderful reproduction of all the skills, thrills and tactics of real soccer/football. The games are completely authentic in every tactical and strategic sense… and everything that you can do in a real game can be replicated with ‘Striker!’. The game is so accurate, I have used these miniature matches as a coaching tool for the teams I have trained.”

Having just finished reading Striker! I have to say I can’t wait to start playing.

The instructions are clear and to the point and I found them very easy to understand. The diagrams are a great visual tool and the side notes for coaches provides wonderful insight into how to play the game with strategic precision.

Not only did the book rev up my excitement to play it provided solid advice that can be used when playing the game on a field.

Striker! provides a wealth on information and I feel it would be a valuable learning tool to any team, player(s) and coaches.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to play tabletop football/soccer in a competitive and realistic way.

I would also recommend this to anyone who is looking to improve their play on the field.

I have a daughter who is a U10 competitive soccer player. When I saw this game, I quickly snapped it up as we are always looking for ways to expand our knowledge of the game. We played the game using just coins as player markers and had a blast! I can’t recommend this game enough if you are an avid fan of soccer and/or if you are looking for a great coaching tool! It was really helpful to be able to see the entire field of players from a birdseye view and to eagerly anticipate what would be our next move. Great coaching tool! Very well done!

Striker! is a game that will bring out the fun and competitiveness of soccer/football right to your living room.

Although you can use the figurines from Subbuteto, you can play the game by finding objects from just around your house which I appreciated because I do not have the figurines. He also provided alternatives if you did not have an 8-sided dice. Moffitt included an option such as using a deck of cards. I applaud the creativity so all can enjoy the game without having to spend a lot of money.

The directions are very thorough and descriptive and examples were provided to enhance or clarify the understanding of the point that is being made.

I also liked the formatting of the book – what I really liked was at the end – the at a glance summary for each component of the game. If you have a question while playing, you can easily go to the back of the book to get the answer.

I look forward to playing Striker! and being able to break down the game and discuss strategy while the game is played. The coaching points are an added bonus. Striker! will enhance a players ability to better communicate while improving their understanding of the game which are great tools and skills that he or she can take to the field.

‘Striker’ is a remarkably realistic way to play out miniature football matches on a tabletop. I was impressed by the rules; they make sense and they’re quite simple to grasp. The unique concept behind the way the rules work is what makes these rules so realistic.

I’ve tried other tabletop rules to play football matches and was always disappointed – either by the mechanics of the games or the need for reams of bookkeeping. The Striker rules are very different. No paperwork and the reproduction of tactics on the field is incredibly realistic. I’ve played several games with my teenage son and we’ve enjoyed them all. It’s great fun to play a derby in our living room and carry on the banter we have about our teams. These rules are really very good.

The Striker rules are about as realistic as you can get. I’ve played through a lot of games since I downloaded the file, using my old Subbuteo players and pitch. I like how players are able to accurately use the tactics we see on the park every weekend. I also like how the Striker rules give players the chance to test out real strategies and ideas.

5 stars. The Striker rules play out beautifully. They’re realistic, and accurate to the real game. I think a couple of ‘play-through’ practice matches are all it takes to get a handle on the system. After that you’ll be replaying the Big Match, no troubles! I like that I can use my Subbuteo players with these rules, but I’ve also since ordered some lead miniature figures.

I live in the country and the striker game allows me to play miniature matches without an opponent. That’s what I like best. As a solo wargamer going back 30 years, this is the first time I’ve tried to wargame a football match. These rules work well and anyone who plays wargames will appreciate their authenticity to the real event.

Been playing this game a lot with my friends. I don’t really have a football background (grew up in rugby country), but have played a lot of FIFA and Pro-Evolution on consoles – where it ‘felt’ like a game played out in 5-10 minute halves. I was looking for that kind of game to play on the tabletop, and I think Striker! scratches that itch. Being a tabletop hobbyist, the opportunity to model players, stadiums and pitches is an added bonus!
